When editing a spool (changing note, color, etc.), the form always sent weight_used back to the server. If the React Query cache held a stale pre-print value, saving would silently reset remaining weight to full. Track whether the user explicitly touched the weight field and only include weight_used in the PATCH request when creating a new spool or when the weight was intentionally changed.
