external-spool extruder routing (#1257)
X2D with 0 AMS units and two external spools (Ext-L feeding left
extruder, Ext-R feeding right) showed "Required filament type not
found in printer" even when the matching filament was physically
loaded. Cause: useFilamentMapping derived dual-nozzle status from
ams_extruder_map being non-empty -- that map is populated from AMS
info bits, so dual-nozzle printers without AMS got an empty map
and hasDualNozzle=false. External spools then fell through to
extruderId=undefined, and the nozzle-aware filter rejected every
candidate because undefined !== 0/1.
Prefer the hardware-reported printerStatus.nozzles array length as
the dual-nozzle signal -- populated regardless of AMS configuration
-- and keep the ams_extruder_map branch as fallback for older
firmware that might not surface nozzles. Affects all dual-nozzle
printers running without AMS: X2D, H2D, X2 Pro.
Regression test pins both layers the bug straddled --
buildLoadedFilaments extruderId assignment per external spool, and
computeAmsMapping picking the correct external for a per-nozzle
requirement -- so a future change that re-breaks either fails CI.

The FTS routes any AMS slot to either extruder, so AMS info reports
bits 8-11 = 0xE (uninitialized) and ams_extruder_map ends up empty.
The print modal's per-nozzle dropdown filter then hides every loaded
slot, leaving the user with an empty filament dropdown.
Detection: parse print.device.fila_switch from MQTT push_status into a
new FilaSwitchState dataclass on PrinterState; surface it through the
GET /printers/{id}/status response as a nullable FilaSwitchResponse.
Frontend: useFilamentMapping and FilamentMapping skip the per-extruder
filter when fila_switch.installed is true. Slots currently fed into a
track display an [L]/[R] routing badge in the dropdown so the user
can see where the FTS is currently routing them.
Tests: 4 backend unit (TestFilamentTrackSwitchDetection), 2 backend
integration (status route), 2 hook regression, 2 component regression.
On auth-enabled instances, logging out and back in left the File Manager
(and occasionally the Archives page) full of broken thumbnails until a
manual page reload. Thumbnail URLs are gated by a short-lived camera
stream token that <img> tags cannot send via Authorization headers, so
the token is appended as ?token=… at render time.
Two races broke this after sign-in:
1. The token query was keyed on ['camera-stream-token'] alone and fired
while the user was still on the login page. It 401'd, React Query
cached the failure with a 50-minute staleTime, and nothing invalidated
it after login — the token never arrived.
2. Even when the token did arrive, the module-level variable holding it
was not reactive, so pages that had already rendered kept serving
image URLs with no token in them.
Fixes:
- Include user.id in the query key and gate with
`enabled: authEnabled ? !!user : true`. A new sign-in produces a new
key and triggers a fresh fetch; no anonymous fetch is cached.
- When the token transitions from null to a value, walk the DOM once
and update src on every <img>/<video> pointing at /api/v1/ without
the current token so already-rendered pages reload in place.
- Mirror the query key/gate in CameraPage so it shares the cache entry.
The DOM-rewrite logic is extracted into rewriteMediaSrcWithToken() with
unit tests covering: appending to a query-less URL, & separator with an
existing query, skipping URLs that already carry the current token,
replacing a stale token (trailing and middle positions), leaving
non-/api/v1/ URLs alone, updating <video>, and URL-encoding tokens with
special characters.
The Printer tab AMS popup and spool auto-provisioner resolved color
names from hardcoded tray_id_name tables with a suffix-code fallback —
and suffix codes like "R1" are not globally unique across material
families. A17-R1 (PLA Translucent Cherry Pink) fell through the
fallback and resolved to "Scarlet Red" (A01-R1, PLA Matte), baking
the wrong name into auto-created inventory spools.
The fix removes the hardcoded tables entirely. Backend resolves color
names via the existing color_catalog table by hex; frontend fetches a
compact {hex: name} map once per session via a new
GET /inventory/colors/map endpoint (auth-gated but not on
inventory:read — read-only views need it too) and stores it in a
ColorCatalogProvider context. A useSyncExternalStore hook cascades a
re-render into pages mounted before the fetch completes so they
refresh from HSL-fallback names once the catalog loads.
Existing auto-provisioned spools keep their stored names; only new
provisioning and live display benefit. Co-Authored-By is intentionally
omitted here per project convention — set it via git config if needed.
Spool CRUD endpoints (create, bulk create, update, delete, archive,
restore) did not emit websocket events, so SpoolBuddy Dashboard and
other tabs relying on event-driven cache invalidation never refreshed.
All inventory mutation endpoints now broadcast an `inventory_changed`
websocket event. Frontend handles it by invalidating `inventory-spools`.
Stream tokens are stored in-memory and lost on restart. The frontend
cached the old token for up to 50 minutes (staleTime) and never
refetched, so all thumbnail/stream requests failed with 401 until
a manual page reload.
Added a global error listener in useStreamTokenSync that detects
when img/video elements fail to load with the current stream token
and automatically invalidates the camera-stream-token query to
fetch a fresh one. Debounced with a 5s cooldown to avoid spamming
when many images fail at once.
When multiple AMS spools match the same type/color criteria, an optional
setting now prefers the spool with the lowest remaining filament. This
helps consume partial spools before starting new ones. Sorting applies
to all matching paths: queue scheduler, print modal, and multi-printer
mapping. Unknown remain values (-1) sort to end.
Camera streams, snapshots, thumbnails, timelapse videos, photos, QR
codes, and cover images served via <img>/<video> tags were previously
unauthenticated because browser media elements cannot send Authorization
headers. When auth is enabled, these endpoints are now protected by a
reusable stream token (?token=xxx) obtained from POST
/printers/camera/stream-token (requires CAMERA_VIEW permission).
Assigning or unassigning a spool now broadcasts a spool_assignment_changed
event to all connected WebSocket clients. The frontend handles this event
by invalidating the spool-assignments and slotPresets caches, so other
open tabs update automatically without a page reload.
After an SSH update completed, the UI kept showing "Update complete,
daemon restarting..." and the old "update available" banner because
nothing cleared the stale state. Registration now resets update_status
when the daemon comes back, and WebSocket handlers for spoolbuddy_update
and spoolbuddy_online invalidate the frontend queries immediately.
All filament mapping dropdowns (single-printer, multi-printer, and
"Print to Any" model-based) showed only the base material type (e.g.
"PLA") without distinguishing subtypes like "PLA Basic" vs "PLA Matte",
making entries with different subtypes but same color look identical.
Backend: Add tray_sub_brands to available-filaments response and include
it in the dedup key so different subtypes of the same color appear as
separate entries.
Frontend: Show tray_sub_brands in FilamentMapping, FilamentOverride, and
PrinterSelector dropdowns, falling back to base type when unset. Add
traySubBrands field to LoadedFilament interface.
Write NTAG213/215/216 tags for third-party spools via the SpoolBuddy
kiosk UI. New "Write" page with three workflows: existing spool, new
spool creation, and tag replacement. Backend encodes 133-byte OpenTag3D
NDEF payloads (material, color, brand, weight, temp). Daemon writes
page-by-page via PN5180 NTAG WRITE command with read-back verification.
Write commands flow through heartbeat polling with WebSocket status
updates. Includes 39 new tests and translations for all 6 languages.

Dual-nozzle H2D/H2D Pro: filament matching now respects nozzle assignments
from the 3MF file. Each AMS unit feeds a specific nozzle (L/R), and the
scheduler/frontend constrain matching to only trays on the correct nozzle.
Falls back to unfiltered matching when no trays exist on the target nozzle.
L/R badges shown in the filament mapping UI. Translated in en/de/ja/it.
Fix AMS slot config overwritten on startup: on_ams_change unconditionally
unlinked BL spool assignments on every MQTT pushall, then re-assigned them
sending ams_filament_setting without setting_id — clearing the printer's
filament preset. Now compares spool RFID identifiers before unlinking.
Fix BL spool detection false positives: removed tray_info_idx from detection
logic in both backend is_bambu_lab_spool() and frontend isBambuLabSpool().
Third-party spools using Bambu generic presets had GF-prefixed tray_info_idx
values, causing misidentification. Now uses only tray_uuid and tag_uid.
SQLite WAL mode with 5s busy timeout reduces "database is locked" errors.
The tray_info_idx field is a filament TYPE identifier (e.g., "GFA00" for
generic PLA), not unique per spool. When multiple AMS trays are loaded
with the same filament type, the previous code used find() which always
returned the first match regardless of color.
Now checks if tray_info_idx is unique among available trays:
- If unique: use that tray as definitive match (existing behavior)
- If not unique: fall back to color matching among matching trays
Fixed in both backend (print_scheduler.py) and frontend (useFilamentMapping.ts).
Closes#245
When multiple AMS trays have the same filament type and color, Bambuddy
now uses the tray_info_idx attribute from the 3MF file to identify the
exact spool selected during slicing. This ensures the correct tray is
used rather than just picking the first match.
Matching priority: tray_info_idx > exact color > similar color > type-only

Docker Integration Test Fix
The /api/v1/settings endpoint was returning 404 because:
1. The route was defined at /settings/ (with trailing slash)
2. Curl without -L doesn't follow redirects
3. The catch-all route was intercepting API paths
Fixes:
- Added routes for both with and without trailing slash in settings.py and notification_templates.py
- Updated catch-all in main.py to raise proper HTTPException for API routes

When navigating to the printer page after a print completed, status
metrics would animate slowly from mid-print values to final state.
Root cause: The message queue processed messages one at a time with 16ms
delays. If 50+ status updates queued during a print, they took 800ms+ to
process, causing multiple throttle windows and the visual "timelapse".
Solution: Handle printer_status messages directly without queueing.
They're already throttled (100ms) so don't need queue rate limiting.
Other message types still use the queue.
Root cause: When a print completed with the camera stream popup open,
spawning a second ffmpeg process for finish photo capture caused a
conflict that froze the browser tab and video window.
Solution: Buffer the last frame from active camera streams. When
capturing finish photo, use the buffered frame if a stream is active
instead of spawning a new ffmpeg process.
Backend changes:
- camera.py: Added _last_frames buffer and get_buffered_frame() helper
- main.py: Photo capture uses buffered frame when stream is active
- main.py: Moved slow operations to background tasks (energy calc,
photo capture, smart plug, notifications, maintenance)
- archive.py: Fixed sync file write blocking event loop (asyncio.to_thread)
- printers.py: Added debug endpoint to simulate print completion
Frontend changes:
- useWebSocket.ts: Throttled printer status updates (100ms) to prevent
UI overload from rapid WebSocket messages
- useWebSocket.ts: Debounced archive invalidations (3s) to prevent
cascade of re-renders on print completion
- useWebSocket.test.ts: Updated tests for throttled/debounced handlers

When a print completes, multiple WebSocket messages are sent rapidly
(print_complete, archive_updated, etc.). Each was immediately invalidating
the archives query, causing a cascade of rapid re-renders that crashed
the browser tab.
Added debounced query invalidation to useWebSocket.ts:
- Multiple invalidation requests within 100ms are coalesced into one
- Uses requestAnimationFrame to avoid blocking the main thread
- Properly cleans up timeouts on unmount
Expanded the useWebSocket.test.ts from minimal coverage to 20 comprehensive tests covering:
WebSocket Mock Tests (6 tests)
- Creates WebSocket with correct URL
- Starts in CONNECTING state
- Transitions to OPEN state
- Can receive messages
- Can close connection
- Tracks all instances
Hook Connection Tests (2 tests)
- Connects to WebSocket on mount
- Reports connected state when WebSocket opens
Message Handling Tests (9 tests)
- Updates printer status in query cache on printer_status message
- Preserves wifi_signal when new value is null
- Invalidates archives on print_complete message
- Invalidates archives on archive_created message
- Invalidates archives on archive_updated message (new handler for timelapse auto-assignment)
- Ignores pong messages without error
- Handles malformed JSON gracefully
- Handles unknown message types gracefully
sendMessage Tests (2 tests)
- Sends JSON message when connected
- Does not send when disconnected
Reconnection Tests (2 tests)
- Reconnects after connection closes
- Cleans up on unmount
Key Fixes
- Fixed MSW (Mock Service Worker) conflict by:
a. Adding addEventListener/removeEventListener to MockWebSocket class
b. Updating MSW setup to bypass WebSocket requests
c. Properly managing WebSocket mock lifecycle in each test
