Slicer-uploaded archives picked up their display name from the 3MF's
embedded print_name (the creator-baked title); users who renamed a job
in BambuStudio's "Send to printer" dialog never saw that name surface
because the FTP filename was only used as a fallback when metadata was
empty.
Settings -> Virtual Printer now exposes an Archive name source toggle
(Metadata / Filename, default Metadata) that flips precedence in
ArchiveService.archive_print via a new prefer_filename_for_name param.
All four VP-sourced archive paths read the new
virtual_printer_archive_name_source setting and forward the flag:
_archive_file, _add_to_print_queue, POST /pending-uploads/archive-all,
POST /pending-uploads/{id}/archive.
On bare-metal Raspberry Pi OS bookworm / armv7l / Python 3.11, 3MF
files larger than a few megabytes arrived complete via the
virtual-printer FTP server but the copy into data/archives/ was
silently truncated. The archive row was still written, the printer
card looked fine, and the problem only surfaced later when opening
the archive — the subsequent zipfile.ZipFile() in
GET /archives/{id}/plates raised BadZipFile and the UI came up blank
with no thumbnail, plate list, or filament data.
Two things conspired:
1. archive_print() used shutil.copy2, which takes Python's sendfile()
fast path on Linux. On the reporter's kernel/fs combination
sendfile returned a short count on the first call for the upload
sizes hit in practice and the destination ended up truncated.
Small files completed in one syscall and were fine.
2. ThreeMFParser.parse() caught the resulting BadZipFile in a bare
`except Exception: pass`, so the archive pipeline kept going with
empty metadata and left the bad file on disk — nothing in the
logs hinted anything had gone wrong until a support bundle came
in and the "Failed to parse plates" warning fired much later.
The archive copy is now an explicit chunked read/write with fsync —
sendfile is not in the path. After the copy, if the source was a
valid ZIP but the destination isn't, we refuse to create the archive
row, remove only the truncated file (and the archive directory if
empty — archive_dir is created with exist_ok=True so rmtree would be
unsafe if a same-second same-filename collision happened), and log
both sizes at ERROR so the condition is obvious in future support
bundles. The parser's silent catch now logs at WARNING for the same
reason.
All nine archive_print() call sites already check `if archive:` or
`if not archive:`, so returning None for corrupted ZIPs propagates
cleanly without behaviour changes elsewhere.
Regression tests cover single-chunk and multi-chunk copies, mtime
preservation via copystat, overwrite of an existing destination, a
ZIP roundtrip through a multi-megabyte 3MF, the new parser WARNING,
and a truncation sentinel verifying that zipfile.is_zipfile() flips
to False on a half-written ZIP — the exact post-condition
archive_print now trusts.
Second wave of #972 — reproducer on a 37.5 MB BambuStudio print to an A1
showed three stacking root causes when Bambuddy restarts mid-print.
1. Archive start_time lost on container restart. The name-based dedup
cancelled any "printing" archive older than 4h and recreated it with
started_at=now(), so a 13h print that saw a restart 10h in ended up
showing ~1.5h duration. Persist MQTT subtask_id on every archive and
match on that first, regardless of age — same id means same print,
resume in place. Also revives Stale-cancelled rows for users
upgrading mid-print.
2. 3MF FTP search tried non-existent paths for ~48 min. Order was
/cache → /model → /data → /data/Metadata → / with 11×30s retries
each; BambuStudio actually pushes to / on A1, so the real path was
tested last. Reorder to / first, and raise a new FileNotOnPrinterError
sentinel from download_to_file on 550 so with_ftp_retry short-circuits
via non_retry_exceptions. 425 / SSL EOF / connection resets still
retry as before.
3. Cover endpoint and archive flow downloaded the same 36 MB twice and
competed for the printer's single FTP socket, producing 425 errors
that fed cause-2's retry storm. Add an in-memory _threemf_path_cache
keyed on (printer_id, normalized filename); whichever flow fetches
first populates it, the other reuses the file read-only. Eviction
runs on on_print_complete and deletes the temp file.
Backend: 14 new tests across test_bambu_ftp.py and a new
test_subtask_archive_resume.py. Existing suite: 2737 pass. ruff clean,
frontend build clean.
* feat: print files directly from project view (closes#930)
Show printable files from linked library folders directly in the project
detail page, with Print Now and Add to Queue buttons per file. Removes
the detour through the File Manager for common reprint workflows.
Bambuddy can now use an external PostgreSQL database via the
DATABASE_URL environment variable. SQLite remains the default.
Dialect-aware helpers handle upserts, PRAGMAs, FTS (FTS5 vs
tsvector+GIN), backup/restore, and health checks. All migration
blocks use savepoints to prevent Postgres transaction poisoning.
Backups are always portable SQLite format regardless of backend.
Cross-database restore imports SQLite backups into PostgreSQL
with automatic boolean/datetime conversion, NOT NULL default
filling, and FK constraint handling.
Add Print Time of Day, Color Distribution, and Records widgets to the
Stats page. Extract shared MetricToggle component for consistent
weight/prints/time toggles. Add date range filtering to archives and
stats API endpoints. Reorganize widgets into parent cards (Printer Stats
and Filament Trends) and fix Dashboard layout persistence for new widgets.
Three independent code paths wrote to archive.cost with conflicting
strategies, causing the same model to produce different prices on each
reprint (e.g. £0.77, £1.54, £2.03).
- Remove add_reprint_cost (Path 3) — redundant cost accumulation that
double-counted on top of usage tracker
- Fix usage tracker (Path 2) — compute cost from current session's
results only, not a SUM of all historical SpoolUsageHistory rows
- Remove _reprint_archives tracking set from main.py
- Update test mocks to match simplified query pattern
archive.cost now always reflects the cost of a single print.
All backend timestamps used datetime.now() (server local time) or the
deprecated datetime.utcnow(). The frontend's parseUTCDate() assumes
timestamps without timezone indicators are UTC and appends 'Z', so
stored timestamps were off by the timezone offset when the container's
timezone wasn't UTC.
Backend: replaced datetime.now() and datetime.utcnow() with
datetime.now(timezone.utc) across 16 files (~80 call sites) for all
database fields and DB comparisons. Cosmetic timestamps (filenames,
user-facing local time formatting) intentionally left as local time.
Frontend: replaced 13 new Date(backendTimestamp) calls with
parseUTCDate() across 8 files to correctly interpret UTC timestamps.
Library files are stored on disk with UUID-hex filenames for uniqueness,
but archive_print() used the disk path as the display name. Pass the
original LibraryFile.filename through from both the print scheduler and
direct-print-from-library flow so the archive's filename, print_name,
and directory name all use the human-readable name.
The duplicate badge on archive cards only matched by content hash,
so re-sliced prints of the same model (different GCODE, same name)
were not flagged. Now also matches by print name (case-insensitive),
consistent with the detail view's find_duplicates() logic.
3MF slicer estimates are now the primary tracking source for ALL spools
(BL and non-BL), with AMS remain% delta as fallback. Per-layer G-code
analysis provides accurate partial usage for failed/cancelled prints.
Fix wrong-spool tracking bug: 3MF slot_id was mapped directly to AMS
tray position, but the printer remaps slicer slots at print time. Now
uses queue ams_mapping for queue prints and tray_now from printer state
for single-filament non-queue prints.
Add filament_grams, filament_details, and progress template variables
to print_complete, print_failed, and print_stopped notification events.
Webhook payloads include per-slot filament breakdown. Per-slot data
stored in archive extra_data during 3MF parsing.
Status summary bar on the Printers page now shows availability count
("X available") and a "Next available" indicator with printer name,
progress bar, percentage, and remaining time for the printer finishing
soonest. Always visible when printers are printing; hidden otherwise.
Fix race condition in bulk archive deletion where files were removed
from disk before the database commit. Concurrent SQLite writes could
cause a lock timeout, rolling back the DB delete while files were
already gone — leaving orphaned records with broken thumbnails. Now
deletes the DB record first and only removes files after a successful
commit.
The CodeQL cleanup in "Housekeeping" (2b11efd) bulk-narrowed except
clauses across 50+ files, breaking FTP uploads on ALL printer models.
ftplib.error_perm (550 errors) is not a subclass of ftplib.error_reply,
so diagnose_storage() CWD failures escaped the handler and prevented
STOR from ever executing — causing 100% upload failure and HTTP 500s
on /api/v1/archives/{id}/reprint and /api/v1/library/files/{id}/print.
FTP fixes:
- Remove diagnose_storage() from upload hot path
- Change all except (OSError, ftplib.error_reply) to
except (OSError, ftplib.Error) across bambu_ftp.py
Exception handling reverts (9 files):
- Revert narrowed except clauses back to except Exception in route
handlers and service code where broad catches are intentional
defensive programming (archive parsing, HTTP clients, 3MF/ZIP
processing, Home Assistant, firmware checks)
- Keep narrow exceptions only where safe (single-op blocks like
int(), file.unlink(), socket.close())
- Remove unused XMLParseError imports from archive.py, threemf_tools.py
Closes#287
These modules were already imported at the top of each file.
Removes re-imports of re, json, zipfile, and logging from
inside functions in archive.py, library.py, main.py,
printers.py, support.py, and test_library_api.py.
Resolves all 30 CodeQL py/repeated-import findings.
Security scan (Bandit) identified vulnerable XML parsing in 3MF file
processing. The standard xml.etree.ElementTree is vulnerable to XXE
(XML External Entity) attacks.
Changes:
- Add defusedxml>=0.7.0 to requirements.txt
- Replace all xml.etree.ElementTree imports with defusedxml.ElementTree
in production code (6 files)
Affected files:
- backend/app/services/archive.py
- backend/app/services/print_scheduler.py
- backend/app/api/routes/print_queue.py
- backend/app/api/routes/library.py
- backend/app/api/routes/printers.py
- backend/app/api/routes/archives.py
Test files intentionally left unchanged (test XML is trusted).
Load project relationship in ArchiveService.get_archive() alongside
created_by. Async SQLAlchemy doesn't support lazy loading, so project
must be eagerly loaded for archive_to_response() to access project.name.
Track and display who performs key actions in Bambuddy:
- Archives: who uploaded each archive file
- Library: who uploaded each file in File Manager
- Queue: who added each print job to the queue
- Printers: who started the current print (reprint tracking)
Backend changes:
- Add created_by_id column to print_archives, library_files, print_queue tables
- Add database migrations for new columns (auto-run on startup)
- Update archive, library, and queue routes to capture current user
- Add current-print-user endpoint for printer reprint tracking
- Track reprint user in PrinterManager in-memory state
- Fix file uploads not sending auth headers (FormData requires explicit headers)
Frontend changes:
- Display username on archive cards, library files, queue items
- Show "Started by" on printer cards during active prints
- Add auth headers to all 12 FormData upload functions
- Update TypeScript types for user tracking fields
Tests:
- Add unit tests for PrinterManager user tracking methods (7 tests)
- Add integration tests for current-print-user endpoint (3 tests)
- Add integration tests for library file user tracking (3 tests)
Works when authentication is enabled; gracefully hidden when disabled.
Closes#206
- Add "Recalculate Costs" button to Dashboard that updates all archive
costs using current filament prices (Issue #120)
- Track reprints and add cost to existing archive total on completion,
so statistics accurately reflect total filament expenditure
Closes#120
The "Default filament cost (per kg)" setting was being ignored when
calculating filament costs. A hardcoded value of 25.0 was used instead.
All three now read the default_filament_cost setting from the database,
falling back to 25.0 only if the setting doesn't exist.
Users can run "Recalculate Costs" from the Archives page to update
existing archives with the correct default cost.
When exporting individual plates from a multi-plate 3MF in Bambu Studio,
all uploaded archives showed plate 1's name and thumbnail regardless of
which plate was actually exported.
Root cause: The 3MF parser used an incorrect XPath lookup (plate_idx
attribute) and didn't extract the plate index from slice_info.config
metadata.
Changes:
- Extract plate index from <metadata key="index" value="N"/> in
slice_info.config
- Remove incorrect plate[@plate_idx='N'] XPath lookup that doesn't
work for single-plate exports
- Set self.plate_number from extracted index so _extract_thumbnail()
uses the correct plate thumbnail (e.g., plate_5.png instead of
plate_1.png)
- Append " - Plate N" to print_name when plate index > 1 to
distinguish multi-plate exports
- Add 7 unit tests for plate index extraction and print_name
enhancement
Track individual parts/objects separately from print plates in projects.
Useful for multi-part builds like Voron where 25 plates produce 150 parts.
Backend:
- Add target_parts_count field to Project model
- Calculate parts_progress_percent and remaining_parts in stats
- Auto-detect quantity from 3MF printable objects when archiving
- Sum archive quantities for completed_count (parts)
- Use archive_count for plates progress
Frontend:
- Add "Target Parts" input in project create/edit modal
- Show separate progress bars for plates vs parts
- Stats footer displays both plates and parts count
- Header badge shows parts progress when target set
Scripts:
- Add update_archive_quantities.py to migrate existing archives
Tests:
- Add 5 integration tests for parts tracking
- Add 3 unit tests for 3MF object extraction
Closes#85
The delete_archive() function in backend/app/services/archive.py now has these safety checks:
1. Empty path check: Refuses to delete files if file_path is empty/whitespace
2. Path containment check: Verifies archive_dir is inside settings.archive_dir
3. Depth check: Ensures we're at least 1 level deep inside archive directory
4. Logging: All security refusals are logged with SECURITY prefix
5. Database record still deleted: Even if file deletion is refused, the orphan DB record is cleaned up
Before the fix:
file_path = settings.base_dir / archive.file_path # If empty: /opt/bambuddy
archive_dir = file_path.parent # = /opt
shutil.rmtree(archive_dir) # DELETES /opt!
- Skip Objects Modal:
- Object ID markers overlaid on preview image (grid layout)
- Large prominent ID badges to match printer display
- Info banner explaining to match IDs with printer screen
- Layer warning when skip unavailable (layer <= 1)
- Red badge on button showing skipped count
- Preview image now shown when paused (not just running)
- Close with ESC key or click outside modal
- Full light/dark theme support
- Backend:
- Extract object positions from 3MF (include_positions=True)
- API returns x/y coordinates for objects (when available)
- Parse s_obj from printer MQTT for skipped state persistence
- Cover URL available in PAUSE/PAUSED states
- Tests:
- Added test for objects with position data
Root cause: When a print completed with the camera stream popup open,
spawning a second ffmpeg process for finish photo capture caused a
conflict that froze the browser tab and video window.
Solution: Buffer the last frame from active camera streams. When
capturing finish photo, use the buffered frame if a stream is active
instead of spawning a new ffmpeg process.
Backend changes:
- camera.py: Added _last_frames buffer and get_buffered_frame() helper
- main.py: Photo capture uses buffered frame when stream is active
- main.py: Moved slow operations to background tasks (energy calc,
photo capture, smart plug, notifications, maintenance)
- archive.py: Fixed sync file write blocking event loop (asyncio.to_thread)
- printers.py: Added debug endpoint to simulate print completion
Frontend changes:
- useWebSocket.ts: Throttled printer status updates (100ms) to prevent
UI overload from rapid WebSocket messages
- useWebSocket.ts: Debounced archive invalidations (3s) to prevent
cascade of re-renders on print completion
- useWebSocket.test.ts: Updated tests for throttled/debounced handlers

1. bambu_mqtt.py: Added hms_errors to the completion callback data, which includes the HMS error codes when a print fails
2. archive.py: Updated update_archive_status() to accept an optional failure_reason parameter
3. main.py: Added auto-detection of failure reasons:
- status == "aborted" → failure_reason = "User cancelled"
- status == "failed" with HMS errors → maps module codes to reasons:
- Module 0x07 (Filament) → "Filament runout"
- Module 0x0C (Motion Controller) → "Layer shift"
- Module 0x05 (Nozzle) → "Clogged nozzle"
Frontend changes:
1. ArchivesPage.tsx:
- Badge now shows "cancelled" for aborted prints, "failed" for failed prints
- "Failed Prints" collection and "Hide Failed" filter now include both failed and aborted statuses
2. EditArchiveModal.tsx: Failure reason field now shows for both failed and aborted prints
New tests added:
- test_hms_errors_included_in_failed_completion_callback
- test_aborted_status_when_cancelled
The HMS error module mapping is basic and can be expanded as you observe more failure types. The actual Bambu HMS error codes are documented in their wiki - we can add
more mappings as needed.
